The Arctic Road Rally was an electric vehicle technology demonstration designed to help drive increased EV awareness, inspire adoption, and inform infrastructure development in Alaska. With 10 electric vehicles successfully completing the 1,096-mile drive from Fairbanks to Oliktok Point, the event illustrated the performance capabilities of electric vehicle technology in Alaska.
From locally owned businesses to community groups to international corporations, Arctic Road Rally sponsors are all invested in Alaska’s future: Learn more about why some of Alaska’s top companies and organizations are working together to accelerate transportation innovation.
The 2022 Arctic Road Rally ran from Fairbanks to Oliktok Point: The route is in many ways synonymous with the challenges that have to be overcome across many Alaskan communities to achieve electrification of transportation. Many Alaskan communities rely on isolated microgrids and diesel generation for electricity. The needs of Alaska and many rural areas go beyond that of funding for charging equipment. Substantial investment needs to be made to fund electric utility line extensions, substation upgrades, and battery storage.
These solutions will help EV drivers and rural communities as state agencies prepare the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan which will determine how $52 million allocated through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program is spent across Alaska.
